< Canadian seniors and medical assistance in dying >

> > Tracy Johnson, Director of Health System Analysis and Emerging Issues, CIHI: 2 out of 3 Canadian seniors surveyed are confident they would be able to obtain medical assistance in dying in their community.

Questions on medical assistance in dying are new to The Commonwealth Fund this year and weren’t asked in other countries, as this information is considered priority for Canadian stakeholders.

The Commonwealth Fund is an international survey of 11 countries that is completed annually.

It is interesting that a good many people are confident about accessing this service when recent consultations and media reports suggest that the process might be improved.

It will be interesting to see how Canadian seniors view this option as part of their end-of-life planning, as jurisdictions improve access.
