These surgeries are among the top 3 most-performed inpatient surgeries in Canada and are among the procedures deemed priorities for wait-time reductions. 

The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on hospital care in Canada, with CIHI reporting fewer inpatient surgeries done since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, including a large drop in the number of hip and knee replacements.
