Connected care — Video

Transcript

Narrator:

[Doctor appears on screen.] I became an ER physician because I love helping people, but when a patient comes into my ER and I can’t access their complete records, I sometimes feel left in the dark.

The other day I cared for a patient who came in for shortness of breath. When I asked about his medications, he struggled to remember what he was taking. [Senior patient is shown in the ER struggling to remember.]

My team had to spend valuable time contacting his family doctor. [Health care worker is seen using a fax machine to send documents.]

Thankfully, we received a full list of his medications and were able to prescribe the right treatment.
But the time we spent searching for information could have been given to other patients in need of urgent care. [ER waiting room is shown full of patients.]

We need a connected system so when my patients come into the ER, I can quickly access their records and focus on treating them. [Doctor and patient are shown successfully accessing the patient’s medical records.]

Canada has made great strides in our digital health journey, but there is still more work to be done to make connected care a reality.

See how CIHI and Canada Health Infoway, in partnership with the Government of Canada and the provinces and territories, are working together to bring information to the right people at the right time.

[CIHI and Canada Health Infoway logos appear on screen, alongside text that reads “Connected care for healthier Canadians”]
